Announcing the Social Impact Stage at SXSW Sydney — Presented by Charitabl.

Reimagining the future through generosity, innovation, and purpose.

The world is hungry for change—and for the leaders, ideas, and tools that make it real. That’s why we’re launching the Social Impact Stage at SXSW Sydney 2025: a dedicated home for the doers and decision‑makers reshaping how we lead, live, and give. We have gathered some of the leading voices and some of the most exciting emerging voices focussed on building community, designing local solutions to the worlds most pressing problems, technologists re‑wiring donations, and brands proving that profit and purpose can power the same engine.

The Impact Stage is where “visionaries, disruptors, and everyday change makers” come together to explore what’s next in social impact.

Charitabl. is curating the stage in partnership with Minderoo Foundation and Microsoft, bringing a unique blend of philanthropic leadership, social innovation, and cutting‑edge technology to one place—15 sessions across 3-days designed to elevate the people and projects daring to change the world.

“We’re proud to welcome Charitabl. as our official Social Responsibility Partner for 2025, and to collaborate on bringing the Impact Stage to life at SXSW Sydney.” — Simon Cahill, Co‑Managing Director, SXSW Sydney

The Vision

To shape the future of philanthropy through daring conversations, bold ideas, and a reimagined future for giving. Expect a tone that is curious, optimistic, innovative, and human—and an experience designed to rewire how we think about generosity

What you’ll experience

Across five core categories, the Social Impact Stage will blend debates, case studies, live demos, and practical frameworks so you can take ideas off the stage and into the world:

  1. The Future of Philanthropy — The psychology and sociology of giving in an era of the great wealth transfer. Why are some leaders giving now while others wait for legacy?

  2. Community‑Led Impact — Stories and structures that empower communities to solve critical challenges—designed with, not for, people.

  3. Profit + Purpose — How business becomes a force for good, and what “responsible capital” looks like when it’s measured, governed, and embedded.

  4. Tech for Social Impact — Platforms and tools that make generosity safer, faster, and easier—plus the AI and data behind next‑gen giving.

  5. Big Bets, Bold Moves — Moving beyond GDP to measure wellbeing, social cohesion, and what actually makes life better.

Big questions we’ll tackle

  • From cheque to legacy: Ultra‑high‑net‑worth donors are shifting from one‑off grants to multi‑year, impact‑measured commitments. What’s driving that move, and how do we help more donors—of every size—adopt the same mindset?

  • Designing with communities: Co‑design with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities boosts project success—how do we scale that “with, not for” approach across Australia?

  • Profit that proves something: Transparent ESG practice is correlated with stronger long‑term performance—so what’s the new baseline for competitive, responsible capital?

  • Friction is the enemy of generosity: Up to 60% of Australian donors abandon a donation when the process isn’t seamless. Which UX breakthroughs will turn casual browsers into lifelong givers?

  • AI with a human face: From predictive analytics to personalised giving journeys, what does human‑centred innovation look like in fundraising, and how do we use it to build trust, not erode it?

  • Measuring the good life: With wellbeing indices showing pressure points for young Australians, can “empathy barometers” help policymakers and communities focus on what actually improves lives?

Who this is for

If you’re a nonprofit leader or fundraiser, you’ll hear from people who’ve doubled regular giving by pairing data with empathy—and you’ll leave with tools to try next week. If you’re a corporate or investor, you’ll learn how purposeful strategy de‑risks brand, compounds value, and creates measurable social outcomes. If you’re curious about the future of giving, you’ll find a new vocabulary—and a community—to help you participate.
