How Charitabl. works and what we stand for.

Mike Gore - Founder & CEO of Charitabl.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen a number of public discussions about Charitabl., some thoughtful, some based on misunderstandings. Many of the questions raised are fair and deserve clear answers. This post is our opportunity to reiterate the information that has always been publicly available and provide those answers openly and directly.
Having spent 15 years in the not-for-profit sector, six of those running a charity, I understand the challenges organisations face in a rapidly changing world.
Our goal at Charitabl. has always been simple: to make generosity easier, safer, and more accessible for everyone. Charitabl. was created to remove barriers that stop people from giving and to help charities receive donations faster, safer and cheaper than ever before.
1. How Charitabl. Works
Charitabl. features only Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) registered charities on the platform and that application has been pre-populated with a dataset we acquired through a contractual agreement with a registered third party. This allows donors to easily find, learn about and support verified causes.
Every charity can claim and manage its own profile completely free of charge. They can also remove their profile at any time, no questions asked.
When a donor gives through Charitabl., their donation is processed through one of two compliant giving structures:
The Charitabl. Fund, a registered Public Ancillary Fund, which manages tax-deductible donations and distributes them directly to the nominated charity.
Charitable Giving Ltd, a registered not-for-profit company, which manages non-tax-deductible donations.
Banking, all monies are held in a non-interest-bearing trust account and distributes those funds according to the donor’s advice.
Verifying Bank Details, we contact each charity to get their bank details and verify them before making a direct deposit transfer. If a charity cannot be reached the disbursement is made online and if it cannot be done online the donation is returned in full to the donor.
All donations flow through Charitabl. at 0% fees and 0% commission. Covering bank fees is our choice because we know the importance of every donor dollar. Every cent given goes directly to the nominated cause.
2. Addressing Common Misunderstandings
There are some very specific and misleading claims circulating online recently and it’s important to set the record straight.
Claim: You must opt in to a “free trial” to update your charity profile.
Answer: False. Charities can update their profile anytime, free of charge, with no trial, credit card, or commitment required.
Claim: Charities must pay $1k–$5k per year to access profile features.
Answer: False. The platform itself is free and fee-free. We offer a 3-month trial of all premium features, with no lock-ins or payment required. Optional tools like Giving Coach AI are available for an annual fee but they’re entirely optional.
Claim: Charitabl. scraped charity data and logos from the internet.
Answer: False. We have a contractual agreement for the data used on our platform. We do not scrape or copy any information or imagery, and we do not actively fundraise on behalf of any charity without their consent.
Claim: Charitabl. fundraises on behalf of charities.
Answer: False. We do not solicit or promote fundraising on behalf of any charity without its consent. We facilitate donor-directed giving through our own registered charitable structures.
Claim: Charities can’t remove their profile without paying $4,999.
Answer: False. Over the past three years, charities have been notified of their listing by email and can freely update, deactivate, or remove their profile at any time with no cost and no conditions.
Claim: Charitabl. doesn’t verify bank details.
Answer: False. We use a multi-step verification process. If direct deposit details can’t be confirmed and online donations cannot be received, donations are refunded to the donor in full.
Claim: We charge hidden fees.
Answer: False. Our Board made a deliberate choice to cover all bank fees ourselves. We do not take a cut of donations.
Claim: Charitabl. does not hold fundraising licenses.
Answer: False. We hold fundraising licenses in all required states and territories.
Claim: Charitabl. is like GoFundMe and additionally withholds donations unless a charity pays $1,000-$4,000.
Answer: False. Charitabl. is not a for-profit organisation it is a not-for-profit registered with the ACNC and members of the FIA. Charitabl. does not make any disbursement to a charity conditional to payment, charities will always receive the entirety of any monies free of charge.
You can find a more detailed FAQs on our website that has always been publicly available that addresses these questions and other common misconceptions about how Charitabl. works.
3. Our Values and Commitment
Charitabl. exists to support and strengthen the for-purpose sector. We believe that innovation, compliance and compassion can and must, coexist.
Our key priorities are:
Transparency: Every donation is traceable from donor to recipient.
Choice: Charities are free to claim, customise and control their page at any time.
Trust: We operate within Australian charity law.
Integrity: We do not profit from donations. Our mission is to empower generosity, not commercialise it.
We’re 100% Australian owned and operated, registered with the ACNC and governed by a Board of Directors who are deeply committed to ethical, compliant and transparent giving.
4. The Human Side
There are families, kids and individuals behind every charity and business - ours included. We’re all trying to make the world a little better. Disagreement is healthy, but hostility helps no one.
At Charitabl., we want to be the best at what we do. That means listening, learning and improving. We welcome constructive dialogue, in private or public and commit to answering questions with honesty and respect.
To those who have voiced concerns: we see you, we value the work you’ve built, and we ask that you seek first to open up with dialogue and understand. There are real people behind every name and logo.
5. Moving Forward Together
Charitabl. will always do everything we can to make the world a better place through kindness, transparency and trust.
We’ll learn when we need to, always look to celebrate others’ wins and continue to believe that generosity and humanity, are what hold us together.
If you’d like to discuss, collaborate, or share feedback, we’d love to hear from you.
Let’s build the future of giving, together.
